You won’t win if you don’t take a shot. But don’t just take any shot.

When we point our lens and press that shutter button, our goal is to produce custom branded photography and videography that capture your products in their best light.

But how exactly do we create stunning content that elevates brand image and captivates audiences to give a second look?
The Influence Agency, a leading digital marketing agency in North America, is here to give you a peek at the process. This is your official TIA photoshoot behind the scenes look!

About the Client, Highly Dutch

No fuss, just good organic weed — that’s what Highly Dutch is all about. With its greenhouse-grown and quality buds, this brand is quickly becoming one of the cannabis industry’s most trusted licensed producers.

On top of that, they’re determined not to break the bank, so that every weed enthusiast can have access to fresh and potent products at great prices.

Highly Dutch is here to elevate all the moments you want to create.

The Concept

Inspired by their iconic, laid-back image, The Influence Agency’s goal with this photoshoot was to immerse the viewer in a chill, trippy space that references retro vibes.

Because Highly Dutch leans into being a vibrant companion for everyday creativity, we translated these thematic concepts into visuals that embodied their signature vintage/film aesthetic. To kick things up a notch, we also had some fun using prism effects.

Setting Up the Photoshoot

The Influence Agency’s branded photography and videography shoots are always planned with sustainability in mind. Instead of buying all the props for this Highly Dutch shoot, many of the items were rented or brought by our team from their homes.

A retro phone, typewriter, glassware, trays, plates, small bowls, and a few other cool props were sourced from The Prop House in Toronto.

The clothing worn by the models and some other vintage props were provided courtesy of the TIA team.

To match Highly Dutch’s brand colours, we purchased material from Fabric Land

As we go BTS of this photoshoot, you’ll realize how you can achieve incredible results with a minimal carbon footprint.

Behind the Scenes of the Photoshoot

To embody a chill vibe in branded photography and videography, the behind-the-scenes of the photoshoot needs to be equally laid-back. To make it look like fun, we actually had fun. That’s one of our top behind-the-scenes tips.

Just like that, we captured how Highly Dutch fits into the daily routines of when you’re playing board games or cards, putting your to-do list together, listening to your favourite records, or just spilling the tea to your friends over the phone.

The Editing Process

After all the fun of capturing Highly Dutch’s products through our lens, it was time to add a bit of a magic touch. Here’s how our editing process went:

1. Image Selection

It all starts with narrowing down to the best shots. BTS of a photoshoot, this step is one of the most crucial and might take the longest as we scrutinize each detail.

2. Import Selects to Lightroom

Next, it’s time to take these images to Lightroom for base edits. This includes crop, white balance, contrast, tone curves, etc.

3. Retouch Images in Lightroom and/or Photoshop

The more detailed edits take place in Lightroom and/or Photoshop. Spot removal, background colour changes, blemish touch-ups, the removal of fabric wrinkles, etc., are all part of this step.

4. Apply Presets

You can’t deny that presets are the life of the party. Behind the scenes of this photoshoot, we applied a few “vintage” presets to the images to increase the grain, so they appear like film. The overall tones were adjusted as well to give a more retro vibe.

5. Export for Review

After adding these magic touches, we got the TIA team to review the images. If necessary, we use the input to make revisions.

6. Send to Client for Approval

The last step is to send our final selects to the client to get their sign-off so that we can start using the photos on their website and social media accounts.

The Final Photos: Before and After

And of course, we’ll end this TIA photoshoot behind-the-scenes look with a collection of the final photos. Through our editing process, this is how we give our raw shots a #GlowUp.
