Growing your audience on your social media brand pages, whether you’re a business or an Influencer, is not easy.  In the past 18 months, advertisers using Facebook in particular have more than doubled and over 93% of marketers are now using Facebook advertising on a regular basis.  This means that competition on social media has substantially increased and your Facebook page and ads are showing up in people’s news feeds a lot less often than they would have a year or two ago.

So, how do we make ourselves more visible with all of this competition?  And how do we get people’s attention so that they follow our social media pages, and start to see and engage with the content we’re posting more often?

First you must ask yourselves, ‘Why should someone like our Facebook & Instagram business pages?’

Are you…

1) Creating useful content that engages your fans?

2) Rewarding your fans and loyal customers?

3) Engaging in conversations outside of your own social media pages?

You might be doing all of the above, some of the above, or none of the above.  If you are doing all of these above, but still lack an increase in social media followers, read on and I promise it will be worth your time.  If you’re doing some or none of the above, I’m about to change your life.

Not really… but I will give you some VERY useful tips and tricks!

Let’s start with…

How To Create Useful Content That Engages Your Fans To Want More

Did you know that images account for 75-90% of Facebook advertising performance?  If you want to get people’s attention, you must create ads that stop Facebook users from scrolling and get them to engage with your content.

Here are some recommendations for creating awesome creative that does just that.

Use Your Customer’s Words

People trust people, not brands.  So why not listen that what people are saying about your brand and use it in your ad copy?

Ask Questions

Questions are one of the most powerful ways to retain a person’s attention.

Asking a question in your ad copy will make the user stop, read, and want to answer the question.

The answer is no, no I’m not.  But, you did get my attention Casa Loma, so bravo!

Promise A Benefit

When seeing an ad, the user will ask themselves, “what’s in it for me” – so tell them what you can offer them.

Next on the list…

How To Reward Your Fans And Loyal Customers

Now that you got their attention and they like your page, you must continue to provide them with valuable content to keep them engaged with you and your brand.  One way of doing that is by rewarding them for being your fans and loyal customers.

How about trying a simple contest such as this:

“Win a pair of tickets to X.  All you have to do is tag a friend you’d like to bring with you and follow our page to be entered to win!”

So you might be thinking, but they already like my page?  Yes, they do, but their friends might not.

What you’re doing here is 1) Rewarding your current fans 2) Getting new fans and 3) Getting people to engage with the contest by having them tag their friends.

How To Engage In Conversations Outside Of Your Own Social Media Pages

I mentioned how effective it is to use your customers words in your ad copy.  But how do you know what your customers are saying about you?

Try Social Listening.

Social listening allows you to track conversations on specific phrases, words or brands, and then leverage them to discover opportunities.  There are several tools out there, such as Hootsuite and Klout, that allow you to listen to what people are saying about your brand.  This allows you to track overall brand health, generate ideas for marketing campaigns and improve your customer’s experience.  It also allows you to engage in conversations and offer expert advice when people are least expecting it.
