Aside from the pursuit of a massive Instagram following, influencers are also chasing another goal—that little, blue verified sticker. But what’s so great about this badge, and why does everyone want it? This status symbol adds to your credibility factor, and in turn, a better influencer marketing strategy. Having this verified sign indicates that your account is the authentic presence of a celebrity, public figure, entity, or brand. It builds trustworthiness and brand awareness to help grow your following.

Did we mention that verified accounts get to enjoy special app features too? Because of all the perks that come along with that badge, everyone wants to know how to get verified on Instagram.

Not sure where to start? Follow our seven simple steps to how to get Instagram verified here!

How to Get Verified on Instagram

Before you’re verified on Instagram, you need to request verification. Only Instagram can verify your account. When you request to be verified, the social media platform determines several eligibility factors before handing out that blue badge.

First things first, here are the seven simple steps you need to take to request verification:

  1. Log in to the account you’d like to have verified.
  1. Tap your profile icon to go to your page.
  2. Look for the “Menu” icon located in the upper right corner and tap on “Settings.”
  3. Click “Account” and then select “Request Verification.”
  4. Fill in your full name. If you’re requesting verification for a business account, you could fill in the name of whoever manages the account. Next, select the category you fall under, such as:
  • News/Media
  • Sports
  • Government/Politics
  • Music
  • Fashion
  • Entertainment
  • Blogger/Influencer
  • Business/Brand/Organization
  • Others
  1. Tap “Choose File” to upload a photo of your government-issued ID, like your passport or driver’s license. For businesses, you could submit official documents such as an article of incorporation, tax filing, or utility bills under the name of your company.
  2. Submit your application by tapping “Send.”

Take note that submitting an application doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be verified. Even if you’re eligible, Instagram is known to be quite picky about who they give blue badges to. After your application has been reviewed, you’ll receive a notification regarding their verdict. In case it doesn’t get approved, you’re free to apply again after 30 days.

How to Be Instagram Verified Badge-Worthy

During Instagram’s earlier days, no one really knew how to get verified or what the criteria was. Some celebrities had the blue check, while others didn’t.

It was in 2018 when Instagram rolled out the application process on its platform. Today, anyone can apply for a verified sign. The tricky part is proving that you’re actually badge-worthy. These are some of the factors that Instagram looks at before pinning that badge next to your name.

Be Authentic

One of the main purposes of the verified sign is to point people in the right direction when they’re looking for a well-known person or a brand. Having the badge means you’re the real deal and not some impersonator or shady account. Instagram will check if you represent a real person, registered business, or entity.

Be Unique

Just like everything else in life, being unique gets you an awesome amount of perks—and it’s no different on Instagram. The app states that you must be the unique presence of the person or business that the account represents. Instagram only allows one account per person or business to be verified (language-specific accounts are exceptions). In addition, general interest accounts won’t be verified either. Yes, those popular meme accounts won’t be getting that badge of recognition, no matter how badly they deserve it.

Be Public and Active

Make sure your account is public, as private accounts won’t be verified. Instagram also checks if you’ve filled in your bio, set a profile photo, and uploaded at least one post.

Be Notable

If you’re wondering how to get verified on Instagram, then being notable is one of the biggest factors. You have to make sure you’re well-known enough, or a highly searched-for person, brand, or entity. Being featured in multiple news sources increases your chances of approval. Take note that Instagram doesn’t consider paid or promotional content as sources in the review process.

Follow the Rules

Remember to follow Instagram’s Terms of Use and Community Guidelines at all times. Being a decent human being online is of utmost importance – and to serve as a verified example that the world could really use right now.

The Perks of Being a Blue Badge Holder

If you use the Instagram search bar, you’ll notice that verified accounts always rank at the top of the search results. Appearing above the rest makes the blue badge a fool-proof SEO tool for increased engagement. There’s clearly no escaping the effects hierarchy, not even on social media.

Verified Instagram users also get to enjoy special features. One of these would be the perk of being able to link a website to the “swipe-up” feature on Instagram stories, whether or not your account has hit the 10,000 follower mark on the app.

Take Your Online Presence to the Next Level

When you have the verified sign on Instagram, you are instantly perceived as authentic and trustworthy. That blue check is Instagram’s seal of approval that your online presence is valued and in the public interest – a strong symbol that will resonate with your audience if you’re wanting to up your influencer marketing game.

With these seven simple steps, you’ll never have to wonder how to get verified on Instagram. Prove that you’re worthy with the tips we’ve listed and it’ll only be a matter of time before Instagram bestows that badge of honour upon your profile.
Whether you’re an influencer or a brand, the #TIAteam can help you take your online presence to the next level.
