How TikTok Has Become King
Social Media Management | 3 min read
Since the launch of Instagram in 2010, the social media platform has grown to over 1 Billion monthly active users, with more than 500 million of them using the platform every single day. How To Use IGTV Like A Pro
With all of this action on Instagram, it was time for the social media giant to create a new app that would “change the social video landscape”. In June 2018, Instagram announced IGTV, which was expected to rival YouTube in hopes that brands and social media influencers would switch over and use the vertical video platform.
Did this happen? Nope. Soon after the launch of IGTV, brands and influencers alike quickly forgot about IGTV and stuck to what they were familiar with – YouTube.
Despite the lackluster adoption of IGTV, Instagram was not giving up. In February, Instagram announced IGTV previews which would allow one-minute IGTV previews on Instagram feeds, making IGTV videos more discoverable.
Since this announcement, IGTV video views have increased by 300-1000%.
With more and more people tuning in to IGTV, here are some tips on how to use it like a pro.
Vertical videos are on the rise, and if you have yet to create a vertical video – there’s no better time! Make sure that when you’re editing your video, you’re editing it specifically to the platform that you’re using. In the case of Instagram, since users are viewing content vertically, make your IGTV video vertical.
Since IGTV is still being discovered by users, it’s important to promote your IGTV videos across all of your social channels. On Instagram, make sure that you are posting an IGTV preview. You can also make your IGTV video visible on Facebook. For all other social media platforms, you can share your IGTV link to increase video views.
Want your viewers to keep coming back for more of your IGTV videos? Create a video series! Similar to your favourite Netflix show, finish off your IGTV video with a reason for your followers to tune in to the next episode. This will create anticipation and will have people coming back for more.
The #1 rule in content marketing – post, post, post. Similar to posting consistently on your Instagram feed, it’s just as important to post IGTV videos often. This helps you connect and engage with your audience.
Tip: Create a content calendar for your Instagram feed posts and your IGTV video posts to keep yourself organized.
If your Instagram feed has a specific aesthetic that your followers love and are used to seeing, make sure your IGTV videos have the same look and feel. Don’t stray too far away from what your followers are used to seeing on your feed – that’s the reason they follow you in the first place!
